24 December 2010: Goodbye Perth, hello London

Spending the morning frantically cleaning and packing everything away in readiness for the trip, we were absolutely shattered, so saying goodbye to Thembu, Kushala, Annapurna and Everest, we eagerly headed to the airport away from the very hot and humid Perth summer.   Checking in with Qantas, they advised there shouldn’t be any delays as most of the backlog heading in and out of Europe was cleared, so we ventured into Qantas club for some lunch and a very well deserved drink.  Annoyingly Qantas seems to have done a deal on the worst white wine in history, so while Scott enjoyed his beer, Tracy stuck to apple juice wondering why we pay so much for so little.

At 3:30pm we boarded out plane and waved goodbye to Perth and Australia for the next year and into a known world but unknown lifestyle with not much of a plan.  On boarding the plane, they announced the connecting services and when they mentioned Delhi, Scott and I had to look at each other and made the decision – yes, no, yes, but no won and we decided to continue onto London, spending the time reminiscing about our trips of past and in the future there.  We landed in Singapore on time and again headed straight to Qantas Club, who also had a shocking selection of white wine, so Tracy resorted to bubbles and Scott stuck to the red wine in the hope it would put us to sleep.   Again they mentioned the Delhi flight and we had to control ourselves from not trying to change the flights, don’t know what it is India, but it continues to hold us captivated.

We departed Singapore on time, but the plane was full in the economy section, even more annoyingly it was empty in all the other classes on the plane – you would think they would auction off a few of the seats (maybe giving the money to charity) or give them to Qantas club members.  Anyway, we settled in and managed to get a few hours sleep which was much deserved after our busy previous days.
